Windy Sea Designs by Karel Murphy is my online artist’s studio featuring gemstone and fused glass jewelry, handmade glass buttons, glass mosaics, and functional fused glass plates, platters, bowls, and home décor.

My gemstone jewelry uses semi-precious gemstones, precious metals, high quality beads, and fused art glass. I enjoy working with color and finding combinations of unusual shapes and cuts of stones and beads which add to the textural quality of my jewelry.  

My fused glass buttons, pendants, and larger pieces are designed, hand cut, assembled, and then fired in a glass kiln.  Several firings may take place to get the desired effect.  My personal style in working with fused glass is to utilize multiple small pieces of glass in my designs which contributes to each being a unique and one-of-a-kind creation.  My fused glass pendants are drilled by hand and attached to an individually designed beaded chain rather than using glued-on components where the glue might fail.

Mosaics are a new medium for me, and I enjoy manipulating the small pieces of glass into the artistic designs that present themselves.  Mosaic work also provides me with a greater flexibility in using a variety of different artistic glass without the worry of compatibility of glass while firing.
